We have been proud to be the Official Chocolate Milk of REAL Local athletic events throughout our region including the Cedar Lake Tri Series. Congratulations to Lorri from Madison and all of the athletes who have run, biked and swum their way to the finish line!
Lorri shared her story of competing in her first ever event with an entry in our 10th Anniversary contest. Have a story to share? Send it to us before August 1, 2015 to be entered to win 4 tickets to the ‘Tomato, To-mah-to’ Chef to Farm Dinner at Graywall Farms on August 15th.
I’ve always wanted to take part in a triathlon. But, I had never even run a mile in my life! When I turned 50 I decided it was the time for me to try something new. My daughters had left for college and I had some time now to focus on myself. I signed up for a first triathlon training at my local Y. I learned how to swim, ride a bike competitively, and run, something I always wanted to do but was afraid of. I fell in love with the cross training for these different sports.
Last summer I had plans to finally participate in my first triathlon but my body had different plans. At the beginning of that summer I was diagnosed with a stress fracture in my femur neck and this meant crutches and no weight bearing on my leg all summer! I was crushed. All the training and anticipation for the summer gone.
In the fall when I was finally able to ditch the crutches, I started back to training very slowly. Walking at first, riding my bike again, swimming. I kept up with my training all winter and entered a few road races in the Spring. Recently, I heard about the Cedar Lake Triathlon series. It sounded like a low key event and I would feel comfortable as a beginner. I talked to a couple of my friends about it and we decided to participate in it as a relay. I swam, my friend Matt, biked and my other friend, Kathy, ran. We had a great time together and it felt like a huge accomplishment!!
After the event was over we were hungry and we were very excited that The Farmers Cow was there sharing chocolate milk and ice cream with the athletes! Nothing has ever tasted any better! When I look back on the night it will be one of those times that I will always remember. The handwork, the friendships, becoming stronger, and of course the reward of The Farmer’s Cow treats!
By the way, I loved The Farmer’s Cow ice cream so much I ran out and bought some right away the next day!
